Vietnam travel guide
Vietnam runs north to south along a long coastline, so most trips focus on one or two regions: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in the north, Da Nang and Hoi An in the centre, or Ho Chi Minh City and the island of Phu Quoc in the south.
Places to include
- Hanoi — the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake and street-food evenings.
- Ha Long Bay — an overnight cruise among thousands of limestone islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Ninh Binh — boat rides through caves and rice fields at Tam Coc.
- Da Nang and Hoi An — Ba Na Hills and its Golden Bridge, beaches, and the lantern-lit ancient town of Hoi An.
- Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc — the Cu Chi tunnels, the Mekong Delta, and island beaches with VinWonders and the Hon Thom cable car.
When to go
October to April suits most of the country, with cooler, drier weather in the north and dry season in the south from December. Central Vietnam can see heavy rain in October and November.
Getting there and visas
Direct flights connect Indian cities with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Indian passport holders apply for a Vietnamese e-visa online before travel — we guide you through it.
Good to know
- Domestic flights save a lot of time between regions.
- Carry some Vietnamese dong for markets and street food.
